Is the Philippines About to Checkmate South Korea as Jollibee is About to Get 70% of Compose Coffee's Equity?

Image
Yes, you read it right--Jollibee is set to acquire 70% of the shares of South Korean coffee brand Compose Coffee. This is an excerpt from the Philippine Star Global : JFC’s wholly owned subsidiary Jollibee Worldwide Pte. Ltd. (JWPL) is set to acquire majority shareholding of 70 percent in Compose Coffee Co. Ltd. and JMCF Co. Ltd., collectively called Compose Coffee, for approximately $340 million . Titan Dining II LP and Elevation Equity Partners Korea Limited will hold the remaining shareholdings in Compose Coffee with effective interest of five percent and 25 percent, respectively. Through JWPL, JFC has a 90 percent participating interest in Titan Fund II , which is focused on strategic investments in food and beverage concepts with the objective to further grow in Asia Pacific food service brands and bring strong global food service brands to the region. It's effortless to start the cheer and dance when a Filipino company opens abroad. This is a meme by the CoRRECT Movement on F

Rejoicing Over Jollibee's as the World's 2nd Fastest-Growing Restaurant Brand While Still Refusing Economic Charter Change?

What I should have noticed is that on February 16, 2024, Jollibee was named the  second fasting restaurant . Yes, you read it right, and here's an excerpt from the Philippine Star :  Jollibee said its recent opening in Canada, the brand’s 100th store in North America, forms part of the group’s aggressive expansion plan for 2024. “ Being ranked as the second fastest growing brand in the world validates the effective work of all the leaders and teams of Jollibee – past and present –  whose commitment to the brand and its customers has helped drive the brand’s sustained growth over the years ,” Jollibee Group president and CEO Ernesto Tanmantiong said. Brand Finance’s latest annual brand ranking report showed that Jollibee surged by 51 percent to $2.3 billion in brand value, rising to rank 17 from rank 20 in this year’s Global Restaurant Rankings . It also landed fifth place in the strongest restaurant brand category, with its rating improving to AAA from AA- . Further, Jollibee was t

Jollibee Chickenjoy is Proof That INNOVATIVE Filipino Businesses Can Withstand Foreign Competition

Image
I guess it's time to talk about some of my all-time favorite fast-food outlets, Jollibee. I remembered writing about how Jollibee is proof that the Philippines is more than ready for an inflow of foreign direct investments (FDI) (read here ). I was able to hear the news a few days ago. However, I decided to just write a new blog entry now after I had my thoughts together.  Here are some details from The Philippine Star to which one can read the following: MANILA, Philippines —  After four rounds of competing in four categories that included 16 fried chicken brands, Jollibee's Chickenjoy managed to win the hearts of the staff of a popular American food website as the "Best Fast-Food Fried Chicken" in the United States. Admittedly a subjective taste test that had "no criteria" of judging other than to "follow their hearts," the staff of the American food website Eater adjudged the Chickenjoy as the best among all the different types of fried chickens

#ThrowbackThursdays: I Miss Jollibee Ice Craze

Image
Scrolldrop Philippines I think I might do a bit of a throwback post for Thursdays every now and then. Since it's summer--I could remember taking summer classes nearly non-stop. It was summertime and I was taking summer classes at the University of San Carlos- Main Campus  where it would be considerably hot in contrast to Talamban. Jollibee was right next near to it. Jollibee served as a quick, affordable meal for a student. If there was one thing that I ordered after summer classes were over--it was the ice craze. The heat of the summer makes me think of this now- extinct  product line. It was that time when Jollibee Foods didn't buy Mang Inasal's 70% shares ownership. I remembered how every time it was hot--ice craze felt like the solution to it. Being a coffee drinker, I would take coffee jelly the most. Although, I also enjoyed mais con hielo. Taking a coffee jelly after classes gave me some energy to study for my summer exams. It was going on for some time so I felt it

Jollibee's Worldwide Franchise is Proof That the Philippines is More Than Ready for More FDI Inflows

Image
Arguments against foreign direct investments (FDI) are often just lame excuses. It's said that if the Philippines lets FDI enter into it--it will directly crush the local businesses. However, that's proven to be false as only businesses (whether local or foreign) that don't innovate will be crushed. If an FDI invests and doesn't innovate--it can expect to be crushed by the local competition. If a local business doesn't innovate--it can be crushed by foreign investors and local investors alike. At this point, I decided that writing about Jollibee would be a good thing. It's because it turns out that Jollibee has opened its 150th branch in Vietnam which is now a developed communist country.  Just reading this excerpt from Good News Pilipinas makes me say that the Philippines is more than ready for more FDI inflows: Jollibee’s opened its first store in the country 15 years ago, one of the first international markets entered by the successful Filipino restaurant cha
