Competition, NOT More Government Intervention, Will Protect Customers Better

Image
Yes, Thomas Sowell is a former Marxist . That's probably why commie hippies call him all sorts of degrading names, without otherwise proving him wrong. It's because insults are the losers' tool to win. Fast forward, some people advocate that the government should be the one to provide everything. Groups such as those belonging to the Makabayan Bloc (such as Kabataan Partylist) or IBON Foundation still advocate for the Philippines to "industrialize on its own".  Others think that the government should continue subsidizing costs, as it was in the "good old" first Marcos administration. Some people talked about how "cheap" things were during the First Marcos Administration, never mind that the country was already sinking due to massive debt . Yes, the First Marcos Administration was a highly protectionist regime . Don't believe what IBON said (and take what they say with a grain of salt ) that the first Marcos Administration was neoliberal. No...

Real Talk: No MNCs In Their Right Mind, Would Ever AGREE to That Ridiculous 60-40 Proposal

Image
Here's another art I found on Facebook. Some time ago, I wrote about how the 60-40 policy may not prohibit, while still discouraging FDIs from entering . It's plain common sense, really, that nobody would want to rent a space if they had to part with 60% of their net profits to the lessor (read here ).  It annoys me to think that certain Netizens on Facebook are still blaming government corruption over the 60-40 policy. That can get annoying. I can link the 60-40 policy to government corruption . After all, corrupt officials want to perpetuate their stay in power through an ignorant and impoverished population. However, blaming corruption alone is really downright stupid. Some say investors are going to Communist Vietnam because the Communist Party of Vietnam-Vietnam People's Army is serious about cracking corruption. However, the reality is that, ironically, Communist Vietnam has more reasonable economic restrictions compared to the Philippines (read here ). Only a few sec...

The Late Miriam Defensor's Quote on a True Teacher

Image
Mechel T. Santiago Right now, I think about some people who made an impact on my life. Yes, I didn't do well back then. I confess that one teacher who flunked me in high school economics was the same teacher who helped me understand it! Here's a quote from the late Miriam Defensor-Santiago. People may call her disrespectful, unreasonable, etc. However, behind Miriam's feisty demeanor was someone who was still willing to step aside when she was  wrong . Miriam made a tactless comment about China and then apologized.  I thought about my situation between two teachers. One was an unreasonable math teacher who terrorized ignorant students . The other teacher was my MDS-style teacher. The MDS-style teacher helped me through when I failed economics. That's why I end up saying that I'd rather have my MDS-style teacher any day over that unreasonable mathematics teacher.  I still remember how MDS did her tirades during the Corona Impeachment Trial. Impeachment trials are so ...

Mahathir Mohamad's Quote on "Never Stop Learning" is Why I Support Economic and Political Charter Change

Image
Inspirational Quotes Back when I was in high school, I often felt I "never lived up" to the "legacy" of my family. It's an often bad habit by boomers to put their children under their shadow, brag about how "great" they are, and even talk and talk about the "good old days". Newsflash! An old man had something that would offend boomers. This old man is former Malaysian Prime Minister  Mahathir Mohamad . To avoid the Duterte vs. Aquino dichotomy--I often put the late Benigno Simeon "Noynoy" C. Aquino III under scrutiny. More likely, put the presidential system under scrutiny! I'll admit Noynoy had his ups, but he too had his downs.  Now, for Mahathir's words that reflect on how surprisingly updated this old man is, compared to stubborn boomers: He said education today was not only about learning history or literature, but more about learning new sciences that are revolutionising the world. “ Even business is now affected by ne...

Does Kabataan Partylist Understand How International Marketing Works?

Image
I'm amazed (but not surprised) at Kabataan Partylist's economic illiteracy . The group seems to be stuck in the pre-Doi Moi days of Vietnam. Do they believe that Vietnam actually got rich through national industrialization? Thankfully, the Philippine Anti-Fascist League Facebook page (old one) collapsed like the Berlin Wall. However, I decided to look at Kabataan Partylist's Facebook page and found another idiotic statement. Yes, it's by Atty. Renee Co. Right now, with the Philippine justice system being so weak (just remember how the Vizconde Massacre and the Chiong Sisters Case are both, case unclosed ), I'm no longer too beholden to lawyers. There are good lawyers but I don't think Renee is one of them! Anyway, to translate Renee's statements in English, it would be like: The real reason behind the oil price hike is deregulation. The government is no longer in control and they're allowing the oil businessmen to increase prices, whenever they wish. Eve...

An EFFECTIVE Traffic System is Badly Required at SRP, Cebu City

Image
Cebu Digital News As a non-professional driver, I simply hate driving around South Road Properties, Cebu. Last time, I almost crashed into a car where the driver was texting . Bobby S. Avila of The Freeman (although the article was reshared at the Philippine Star ) gave an opinion piece last 2017. An opinion is a differing view but it must be backed up by facts . It's a view or judgment or what someone thiniks. However, it's not an opinion that so many Filipinos don't deserve a motorist's license. That's why I dare to say that they don't have the right to complain about increasing gas prices, because many of them don't deserve how to drive. I decided to write this article because yesterday, I was driving by Escario, and another motorcycle incident happened. I talked with someone today, and an incident last May 2025 was brought up. I confess that because I'm squeamish about blood, I dropped by dreams to become a medical doctor. Just thinking about one ro...

Kabataan Partylist SERIOUSLY Needs to Learn BASIC Business from the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union

Image
Foreign Trade University A few days ago, I wrote about Kabataan Partylist needing to learn economics from the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union . Otherwise, I'll continue using the Vietnam Youth Union for convenience. Speaking of which, the Foreign Trade University in Vietnam is actually a government-owned university (read here ). For this post, I decided to expand on a point, saying that Kabataan Partylist needs to learn from the Vietnam Youth Union on entrepreneurship . I pretty get jealous of the Vietnam Youth Union members with their practical early immersion.  The  National Defence Journal   of Vietnam gives out this important detail of the Vietnam Youth Union:  Fifth, enhancing the support of young intellectuals to get access to opportunities of work, research, develop ideas, products, and start-up to legitimately enrich themselves, the community and the country. Support the implementation of startup ideas and projects of young intellectuals in practice, making...
