Why I'm Writing This Blog

I'm Shaun T. Dy, an MBA graduate, who secured his Master's in Business Administration from the University of San Carlos in 2014 and his Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration from the same school in 2007. I also had a short-term course called Associate in Computer Science, which I completed in 2004. I took BSBA instead when I realized I wasn't qualified to take Bachelor of Science in Information Technology, which was a "hyped up course" that only resulted in a lot of shiftees during the first two years. The reality was that I wanted the BSIT degree to move away to the United States of America and stay there for good.

However, there's a problem that even a higher degree can leave anyone with a false sense of confidence. Do you remember the story of the Scholars and the Lion? That's the problem with the Philippine education system today. I even got victimized by a scam during my MBA days, along with a lot of people. I thought about going back to school to learn more. It looks counterintuitive, but the problems aren't the schools; it's more in the education system. The teachers want the best for the students, but the education system itself can be more counterproductive. That's why I decided not to pursue a PhD. My MBA was more of a safety net back in the early 2010s.

It wasn't until the COVID-19 pandemic combined with the Odette disaster (which happened in December 2021) that my mind was hit. The pandemic caused boredom and limited options. I did some self-study that school in general never taught me. I soon learned stuff that no business and economics school ever teaches, such as:

  1. How to invest in the stock market without being a big shot like Warren Buffett or the late Charlie Munger. Buffett even recommended the use of index funds. Before the pandemic, I was usually investing in the money market (bonds) before I got into stocks in 2018, through the AXA Chinese Tycoon Policy.
  2. How the Filipino First Policy has done more harm than good for Filipinos. It would be best to discuss Article XII of the 1987 Constitution.
  3. A more in-depth learning of how a scam works, such as cryptocurrency or any form of pyramid scam.
These are the aims for writing my blog:
  1. Help develop basic financial literacy and economic literacy. These don't require an MBA or even a PhD to understand. These are simple theories that everyone needs to learn. That's why I lon
  2. Continue to cultivate a growth mindset for myself by writing what I learn. This includes me reacting to current events, such as the Iran War or the Philippine stock market. I'm not aiming to be an expert. I want to continue learning for as long as I can.
  3. I also want to write about financial scams, as I was victimized myself in 2012, during my MBA days of all time.
Note:

This blog will try to remain a focused intellectual space and to prioritize my time for research. I have put comments under moderation (as anonymous comments can be very annoying) or offer private consultations. The work is intended to be read and reflected upon independently. As the owner of the blog, I can just disapprove or mark spam any comments that would be proven counterproductive. I refuse to feed trolls as it's a waste of time. I may turn off comments if the comments section ever gets messy. It's because I value knowledge over useless arguments
