Don't Get NCOVed on Valentine's Day by a Materialistic Girlfriend

Tomorrow is Valentine's Day and it's not always as romantic and magical as you think it is. Just think that Odette hit during the Christmas season canceling the celebration for those hit by it. If there are Christmas Day disasters--there are also Valentine's Day disasters. You can Google them and you may find that there are some disasters that happened on Valentine's Day. Though, what's more often overlooked is the materialism not only associated with Christmas but also on Valentine's Day. Yes, it's easier to expect a bank robbery, a massacre, a typhoon, etc. to hit on Valentine's Day over one thing--to catch NCOV on Valentine's Day from a materialistic girlfriend. NCOV here stands for No Cash On Valentine's instead of Novel Coronavirus.

The materialistic girlfriend disaster

A materialistic girlfriend will do more harm than good regardless of how she looks. She can very pretty or very ugly. Both an ugly material girl and a pretty material girl will run one's budget dry nonetheless. It's because a material girl doesn't have a practical mindset. To be materialistic is to be too concerned with money matters. A materialistic girlfriend would be one who's very difficult to please for the following reasons:
  1. She's too brand conscious. Her perception is that she must wear the most expensive brands instead of the best brands. Her perception of quality is based on branded goods rather than based on quality goods.
  2. For her, the more expensive the stuff, therefore it must be better. It's a very common mistake people make when they buy what's expensive. Sure, if something is too cheap then it must be too good to be true. If something is too expensive then it must be more on a brand name than quality. So, good luck with the money when prices skyrocket.
  3. She might insist on a rather ridiculously expensive date. Think about a romantic dinner? It must always be a Five-Star Restaurant when there are other affordable places that serve better food. She might even insist in getting a brand new Mercedes, BMW, or even a Limousine on the date which from what I heard, aren't fuel-efficient, so good luck if you run out of gas! For instance, did you know that Mercedes is really one of the worst offenders in wasting fuel? That's why I don't have any plans to get one even if people will laugh at me for driving a Toyota.
The problem with the materialistic girlfriend can be that she doesn't even know how to budget. Maybe, she comes from a lower-income family where money is treated poorly. Maybe, she comes from a rich family and her parents spoil her. Regardless, they are to be avoided at all costs. It's because one probably lives on loans and the other on a hand-to-mouth existence. Just thinking about buying all the expensive stuff makes me think why in the world did I use to have a materialistic mindset?

Materialistic women are prone to cheating--though not all. It's one thing to hear of wives having affairs because they want more money. A materialistic woman is prone to sacrificing her values for money. Let's think about the boyfriend who buys her the best presents so it isn't enough. Fed up, she decides to go after a high class guy who will buy her all the nice stuff she wants--Louie Vitton, Prada, Chanel. The high class guy may also drive her around in a BMW while they go to fancy restaurant. The best thing to do with that woman is to leave. Marriage with such a woman will just cause headaches. It would be better to break up, let her have her materialistic third-party because she's no good. In short, she cares more about money over morality. Money without morality is just plain meaningless!

Going for that money-wise, investment-savvy woman

I was thinking about how the budget-minded, investment savvy woman would be a good one. Here's what might be some things to look out for:

  1. She's not brand conscious. For her, the quality matters more than the brand. She may thank her ma got her a POCO M4 Pro phone or a good Samsung phone over an iPhone. She might be thinking long-term such as resell value or repair expenses if ever she needs to get it fixed. She may even be thinking about that if she breaks it--she doesn't need to beg to her boyfriend for one.
  2. She keeps in mind that it's all about the quality of the stuff. A stingy person is to be avoided though. She may be thinking about paying more for quality while trying to avoid spending more than usual. She might be thinking about it that she would want the stuff that does the best for less--not buy a brand that probably performs worse. It made me htink of how the iPhone X allegedly had problems during its new release.
  3. She would also think that the best dates are all about quality. She wouldn't want expensive roses and may settle for the ones from a flower shop. She may suggest a place that's affordable and serves really good food. She wouldn't mind riding a non-luxury car as long as it's not in a broken condition. Some of the best cars don't even cause much either. Think about how a Mercedes tends to lose so much fuel faster than a non-luxury car. It would be better to get your date ruined by a flat tire than to run out of fuel in the middle of the road.
A woman who understands the value of money may have lesser chances of cheating. It's because if she knows how to make her own money--she wouldn't need to keep milking out a man. It would be something that the only time she may leave a guy is if he's too materialistic or too stingy--both extremes with money. For her, she's the one who might help her man learn to budget the money. Such a woman learns to value what's better and not what's expensive. In turn, she as a wife would make a better Return On Investment (ROI) than investing to gain a materialistic woman. it's because she also has a long-term financial plan that's sensible instead of extravagant or stingy.

Hussam Middle Eastern Cuisine's New APM Prime Mall Location

It was sad when I went to Ayala Center Cebu to eat at Hussam Middle Eastern Cuisine. They had closed their office at Il Corso. They moved out of Ayala Center Cebu at the end of January . I remember talking to someone who said that the old location can be "very hard to find" when you enter the mall. Right now, I remember how trying to find Hussam in Ayala can be comparable to trying to find the magic lamp in Aladdin's  Cave of Wonders. That's what I felt back then, I ate at Hussam back in 2024 . Ayala Center Cebu probably had a low visibility problem. They had their soft opening on Black Saturday. They missed the Hari Raya Puasa date, a holiday for the Muslim population. This time, the use of glass walls makes it obvious to passersby that it's a Middle Eastern restaurant, that grilling is underway, and that it's certified halal .  The place still maintains the same pristine cleanliness I recall from Ayala Center Cebu. The place's transparent glass windows ...

Toxic Positivity: Shielding Our ECONOMICALLY OUTDATED Constitution

ABS-CBN News I thought about what life was like in the late 1990s. It was a boomer vs. millennial clash . I remember how often I kept complaining about high school during the K+10 era. Even worse, the real problem why I hated school was that school cared more about grades for the sake of grades , instead of teaching students how to get good grades based on learning first. What may have compounded it is that we've had boomer parents who thought that fatigue is a badge of honor .  What I realized is the common problem of toxic positivity . We have the "good vibes only" or "everything will turn out right in the end". Sadly, life doesn't always turn out that way. You can tell a terminally ill cancer patient that, and the cancer patient would die anyway. No amount of toxic positivity ever fixes the problem. This time, I'd like to rant once more about how toxic positivity has been used to defend the outdated 1987 Constitutio of the Philippines.  The classic r...

Social Media Gossipers' Ad Hominems Against Actor Robin Padilla Regarding His Proposal to Remove 60-40

Make no mistake that I didn't vote for Robin Padilla. I feel like I've had enough of voting for celebrities, athletes, and those who I felt are know-nothings in the legislative. However, Padilla recently had his proposal to remove the 60-40 restrictions regarding foreign direct investments (FDIs) . Former Philippine Vice President Maria Leonor "Leni" Gerona-Robredo was even in favor of that amendment. I guess that's why Philippine economist Andrew James Masigan endorsed Robredo. I may have not endorsed Robredo while Masigan remains to be one of my favorite local sources. The news from GMA News Online reveals these plans by Padilla himself: Senator Robin Padilla said he wanted to revise the Constitution to scrap the 60-40 rule on foreign ownership of businesses to accelerate job creation and competition among industries . In a Monday interview, Padilla said the move would attract more foreign investments to support the country’s economic recovery. “Para sa akin mas...

New Study Confirms Oil Degulation Law is Bad, Oil Nationalization is Better

Yes, you found that right. Did you know that the Filipino First Policy caused the Philippines to succeed and Carlos P. Garcia was the best president ever? Today, because of the Iranian War crisis, we need to talk about a new important discovery. What I realized is that the oil deregulation policy is bad . Do you want the oil prices to fall under control? Then read this new blog to find out.  A new audit was revealed in the world's greatest economic forum. The Trust Me Bro School of Economics invited the trustworthy IBON Foundation to speak at Intrigador Financials . I was so wrong not to notice the genius behind the likes of Makabayan Bloc.  What have I done compared to the youths  of Kabataan Partylist ? I even discovered that  the IBON Foundation is the most credible economic think tank . As I realized that  Filipinos should only listen to Filipino economists ,  I have found that there are literally  tons of studies  from the famous Trust Me Br...

Pinoy Pride Economics Helps in Drug Mule Recruitment

Al Jazeera Who can remember the execution of three drug mules in China on March 30, 2011 ? These were three separate cases where the three convicts were  Sally Villanueva , Ramon Credo (who was cremated before his remains were brought home, and Elizabeth Batain (whose face was never shown). Sally had an episode in the GMA-7 TV show Magpakailanman,  where her husband was personally interviewed by Mel Tiangco. We never got Sally on the big screen. The husband's side of the story said that his wife was guilty of a frame-up, while Mel herself said, "If the offer is too good to be true, don't take it, or you could end up in the same pickle." Take note that I'm just paraphrasing Mel's words, not saying the words she said.  Reviewing the three drug mules who got arrested, based only on what's available for public viewing on the Internet If we read through the circumstances , this is how they were arrested, proving they weren't a trio: China has brushed aside...
