In pursuit of encouraging people ot learn Mandarin Chinese, here's a chart teaching the different types of melons in Chinese. Learning how to speak Chinese with these melons would be a productive exercise. Aside from using what was often called bon toi in the Chinese schools, it might be good to help people memorize these types of sentences, with the translation:
- Chinese: "天ę°ēļ¼ę³å脿ē." (TiÄnqƬ rĆØ, xiĒng chÄ« xÄ«guÄ.)
- Translation: "It's hot, I want to eat watermelon."
- Chinese: "ä½ ę³åå¬ēč¶å?" (NĒ xiĒng hÄ dÅngguÄ chĆ” ma?)
- Translation: "Do you want to drink winter melon tea?"
- Chinese: "ęč¦ååē擾." (WĒ yĆ o zuò nĆ”nguÄ pĆ i.)
- Translation: "I'm going to cook pumpkin pie."
- Chinese: "ēØé»ēå»ē¼č¢." (Yòng huĆ”ngguÄ qù yĒndĆ i)
- Translation: "Use cucumber on your eye bags."
- Chinese: "č¦ēåÆ¹ä½ ēå„åŗ·ęē." (KĒguÄ duƬ nĒ de jiĆ nkÄng yĒuyƬ)
- Translation: "Bitter gourd is good for your health."
- Chinese: "ęēē„ęÆå欢åęØē." (WĒ de zĒmĒ xĒhuÄn chÄ« mùguÄ)
- Translation: "My paternal grandmother loves to eat papaya."
- Chinese: "čµč±ē±½åÆč½ä¼é ęēŖęÆå±é©ļ¼čÆ·å°åæ." (KuĆhuÄ zĒ kÄnĆ©ng huƬ zĆ ochĆ©ng zhƬxĆ wĆ©ixiĒn, qĒng xiĒoxÄ«n.)
- Translation: "Sunflower seeds can be a choking hazard, be careful."
- Chinese: "ååÆāāēé„®ęęÆčæäøŖå¤å¤©ēēę³é„®å." (HÄmƬāāguÄ yĒnliĆ o shƬ zhĆØge xiĆ tiÄn de lĒxiĒng yĒnpĒn.)
- Translation: "Cantaloupe drinks are ideal for this summer."
Creative ways to teach Mandarin Chinese should focus on memorization and application. Memorize and practice. Not just memorize and then forget after the exam is over. The education system needs a rehaul that will encourage students to memorize things, at heart.
