Teaching Standard Chinese (華語) Through the Stomach?

It's time to rethink about Chinese again. Here are some ways we can teach basic Chinese by introducing food in Chinese. All pictures here belong to the International School of Languages Facebook page. This would be one way to prevent the dead reading (si-thak in Amoy) in exchange for learning Chinese for real. 





This could help create some interesting tests like:

a.) Matching up the meaning and filling up the Pinyin.
b.) Memorizing (and understanding) the mini-conversations with food as the topic.

The second was all about school violence in connection with the broken windows theory . Before August ends, I thought about the nationwide DepEd policy for an active-threat drill. The news from one school shooting after the other makes me think that school shootings aren't a joke. Sure, there are very controlled school environments like Bethany Christian School, where I remember our disciplinarian was like the late Miriam Defensor-Santiago, and that we had a very orderly drill. Continuous Improvement is Better Than Expecting Sudden Perfection

I found this meme on Facebook. Fortunately, there's already an attribution on the picture. In my case, I prefer to say, "Continuous improvement is better than expecting sudden perfection." It's because perfectionism is lethal, and we're all but human beings. As the midterm elections come in, there are still people who may either be (1) reminiscing that "perfect leader" (ex. Ferdinand E. Marcos Sr., Benigno Simeon C. Aquino III, Rodrigo Roa Duterte, etc.) or (2) still expecting the perfect leader.  It's sad some people still believe in the old lie repeated all over again, "It's not the system that's the problem. It's the people that's the problem." They still wait for this "grand glorious leader". That's why I often joke on Facebook saying, "Why don't you create this perfect leader so I too may follow him to victory!" IBON's Pinoy Pride Economics Mindset in Arguing Against Pax Silica

As debate rages about Pax Silica, from outright opposition to taking a negotiated stance , I want to write more about it. This time, I decided to look again at the IBON Foundation's logic.
