Teaching Standard Chinese (華語) Through the Stomach?

It's time to rethink about Chinese again. Here are some ways we can teach basic Chinese by introducing food in Chinese. All pictures here belong to the International School of Languages Facebook page. This would be one way to prevent the dead reading (si-thak in Amoy) in exchange for learning Chinese for real. 





This could help create some interesting tests like:

a.) Matching up the meaning and filling up the Pinyin.
b.) Memorizing (and understanding) the mini-conversations with food as the topic.

The Rags to Riches Story Behind Lao Gan Ma, the Famous Chinese Chili Sauce

Sure, I could keep focusing on Filipino rags to riches stories but I'd like to talk about an item that's selling worldwide. It's called Lao Gan Ma-- which literally means old godmother . It gets interesting because Lao Gan Ma can be used in different types of cooking. But what wasn't too surprising is the rags to riches story behind Lao Gan Ma. In fact, the founder herself Tao Huibi, who's currently 79 years old , came from a poor background and never learned to read and write. Last 2017, when she was 70 years old , she actually drove a Mercedes Benz, two Rolls-Royces, and a BMW .  The story was actually pretty tragic . Was Benigno Aquino III's One-Term Presidency Enough to Go Beyond Rising Tiger Philippines?

GMA News Online Today is the fifth year of Benigno Simeon "Noynoy" C. Aquino III's demise . The Philippines can be too easily divided. Honestly, I can admit that I didn't vote for or support Noynoy, or that I actually got caught in between one-sided political debates . As always, I will confess there would be biases,  and I'm not free from them. Now, to make an assessment, it's easy to see tributes for Noynoy can go from what deserves credit ot actually crediting him beyond his power . Whether we want to admit it or not, Noynoy's legacy should be viewed as a complicated legacy . Even good kings made terrible decisions too! We must give credit where credit is due.
